Septuaginta is the oldest of several ancient translations of the Hebrew Bible into Greek. The word septuaginta means "seventy" in Latin and derives from a tradition that 72 Jewish scholars translated the Pentateuch (Torah) from Hebrew into Greek. Alfred Rahlfs, a longtime Septuagint researcher, began a manual edition of the Septuagint in 1918. It relies mainly on Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, and Alexandrinus. In 2006, a revision of Alfred Rahlfs's Septuaginta was published by the German Bible Society. This editio altera includes over a thousand changes to the text and apparatus.
